THE DEFIANT NG YEN YEN

Former tourism minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen has assumed the post of Malaysian Tourism Promotion Board (MTPB) chairman, defying a party directive not to accept government posts.
The MCA vice-president's decision brings her into direct confrontation with party president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, who insists that everyone adhere to MCA's decision not to accept the posts.
(Chua was reported as saying today that the rule applied only to new appointments and not those made before the May 5 general election.)
It could not be immediately ascertained when the appointment was made, but Tourism Malaysia officials said Ng had appointed herself chairman before the dissolution of Parliament in April, after she was told she would not be fielded in the election.
"However, when news of her appointment was leaked, she was subjected to criticism and ridicule in blogs. She subsequently rescinded the appointment by revoking the letter," said an MTPB officer.
Sources said that even if she had been appointed prior to May 5, it would be wrong in principle because "the minister cannot appoint herself."
Ng replaces the ministry's former secretary-general, Datuk Victor Wee, whose tenure as chairman ended on May 5.
Ng did not return calls made by theSun but sources said she "had already inspected the chairman's office" before she left the ministry just before the general election.
Chua could not be reached for comment.
The same officer said Ng had expected to start as chairman on Monday with an official "welcome on board" reception from senior officials including Director-General Datuk Mirza Mohammad Taiyab Beg and his deputy, Datuk Azizan Noordin.
However, both are overseas and will only be back over the weekend. She is, therefore, expected to report for work next Monday.
Mirza is said to be accompanying Tourism Minister Datuk Nazri Aziz on an official visit to New Zealand.

  1. Report from Free Malaysia Today

PETALING JAYA: MCA vice president Ng Yen Yen would not be punished for assuming the chairperson’s post at the Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board starting next Monday because her appointment was not recommended by the party.

Hence, MCA would not take any disciplinary action against her, said party president Dr Chua Soi Lek at a media conference today.

Ng, the former tourism minister, landed in hot soup following news reports today that she has “appointed” herself to the post before the parliament dissolution in April, following the decision of the party not to field her in the election.

Although she later rescinded her own “appointment”, she was still made the MTPB chairperson after the May 5 polls, and would begin work on Monday.

Chua said he believed the report was misleading because someone can only be appointed to a government-related agency upon the request of the prime minister or the relevant minister. Ng was the Tourism Minister before the polls.

He said the presidential council has accepted Ng’s explanation on the matter today.

“When we look at our resolution, we should read in spirit on how it was written, and read it in totality, meaning nobody should accept a government post recommended by the party.

“We won’t take disciplinary action against her because she was not recommended by the party,” he said.

Reporters: So there is no problem as long as an appointment was not recommended by the party?

Chua: I didn’t say no problem, but can accept.

Reporters: So MCA can also accept the transport minister post if someone is appointed by the PM?

Chua: No, a ministerial post requires recommendation from MCA.

When asked if the party was practicing double standard since Johor MCA leader Tee Siew Kiong received three years suspension for assuming an exco post upon the sultan’s request, Chua said this was because Tee’s appointment has been politicised.

“Yes, I have not recommended Tee (to the exco post). But unfortunately, the issue (of his appointment) has been politicised as part of the infighting in MCA,” he said.

“He has not defied (the party pledge). But since presidential council wanted to reflect the decision of disciplinary committee, I abide by the decision of the majority,” he added.

When asked whether Ng would get the same treatment should people politicise her appointment, Chua sidestepped the question.

“Yes, they can be politicised. They can even politicise the appointment of Wong Nai Chee as the prime minister’s secretary and Ong Ka Ting as the Malaysia special envoy to China,” he said mockingly.

Can you believe this PORN Actor that is only good for porn website and Tiger shows!
CSL is good in pusing kiri, pusing kanan and gostan but no forward for MCA, that is why MCA is now in ICU conditio and soon going to the grave. So Donald Lim can also take up government post, kah?
To narrow it down, I think CSL pre-agreed to NYY's demand that if she do not stand for the GE13 election, she is allowed to accept the Tourism Chairman post which was also pre-arranged before the election.
The Big question is, to become a the chairman is like a demotion from a minister position or should we viewed it as she is going to be the de facto Tourism Minister to protect her golden goose and interest.
